Amazon’s bold venture into faith-based filmmaking has sparked enthusiasm among genre enthusiasts who also subscribe to the Amazon streaming service and shopping platform.
The collaboration with Jon Erwin, co-director of “Jesus Revolution,” has stirred considerable anticipation for the realm of faith-based media. Teaming up with YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, Erwin brought their faith-centric film venture, “The Wonder Project,” into an alliance with Amazon MGM Studios.
Dubbed “House of David,” the series is set for a direct-to-order release, instantly accessible upon its debut. Unfolding the saga of King Saul navigating the relentless trials and temptations of the earthly world, the storyline intricately weaves David’s journey to remain in King Saul’s favor while inching closer to claiming the throne himself.
Vernon Sanders, the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, shared insights into the partnership, expressing excitement about the grand scale and narrative richness of “House of David.” Sanders lauded the passion of “The Wonder Project” team, citing their clear and fervent vision.
In Sanders’s words, “When we met with Jon, Kelly, and Dallas, their clear and passionate vision for The Wonder Project and their ambition to nurture universal stories of love, triumph, and spirituality moved us.”
Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten conveyed optimism about collaborating on faith-based films with Amazon Studio, emphasizing The Wonder Project’s mission to restore faith in meaningful narratives. She remarked, “Our goal at The Wonder Project is to tell stories that restore faith in things worth believing in, and to do this at scale.”
